Homemade Toffee

Ingredients:

2 cups butter
2 cups white sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Cover a cookie tray (the kind that has raised sides) with wax paper.  

In a sauce pan, combine butter, sugar and salt over medium heat. stirring constantly until it has reached a dark amber color and the temperature has reached 285 degrees F.  

As soon as the toffee reaches 285, pour it onto the cookie tray.  Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top and let it sit for a minute, then spread the chocolate evenly over the toffee.  Sprinkle nuts over the chocolate.  

Put the toffee into the refrigerator to chill until set.  Then break it into pieces and store in an airtight container.
