2001: A Space Odyssey The year 2001 came and went and we never saw the inside of a space station, evidence of alien life, or indeed anything remotely resembling the future predicted by Arthur C. Clark. (Note to all would-be authors and/ or fortune tellers: never give a date with your predictions.) However, Mark, Sandy, and Caroline Morris did embark on their own "space odyssey" as they left Space City (Houston) to seek out new life and new civilizations (well, new jobs at any rate) in Dallas. The planets must have been aligned the day that Mark interviewed at JCPenney Corporation, as they offered him a stellar job as an HR Research Consultant at their corporate headquarters north of Dallas. He continues to work on his dissertation and has completed all other requirements for his Ph.D. Our universe will be expanding next February, as Sandy is pregnant with a
baby boy – Colin Sandy left the orbit of the CheckFree Corporation, where she was the head of the Documentation team. She is not planning to return to work until some time after the baby is born. Caroline is our sun and our moon. She is absolutely delightful and dangerously clever. She is attending a Montessori preschool, where she is a star student, and enjoys spending her afternoons with Mommy. She doesn’t really understand the cosmic shift that will take place in February – she thinks that Colin is a imaginary baby and gently tolerates Mommy and Daddy when they "pretend" to talk to him. In an event predictable only by the Uncertainty Principle of quantum mechanics, the Morris family enjoyed unprecedented representation at the annual Brown Reunion. Out-of-this-world guitarist and horticulturist Stephen Morris returned to Texas to join Peter, Margaret and Charlotte at the Reunion. We hope to see the Morris family together again, along with Scott, Jen, and favorite nephew Brandon before the Earth completes its next rotation around the sun. Similarly, a moment of cosmic harmony was achieved as we gravitated towards upstate NY this summer for the much-anticipated Ingraham-Flingraham 2001. Sandy’s father Steve, and his siblings Tom and Joan, all brought their families from the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Sandy’s brother James has posted pictures of the celestial event on the web at http://ingrahams.net/flingraham.html. As we rocket toward the end of another year, we take time to reflect on our family and friends and to wish all of you peace and prosperity in the New Year. |
